Calculator

Appliance electricity cost calculator

Estimate the electricity cost of a device based on usage and price per kWh.

Inputs

Calculate now

Calculate electricity costs for individual appliances and compare usage times.

W
You can often find the rated power on the label or data sheet.
hrs
Enter how many hours the device runs on a typical usage day.
Use 7 for daily use or often 5 for workday-based usage.
€/kWh
Use your current variable tariff price per kWh.
Optional fixed tariff component per month.
Guidance

Appliance electricity cost calculator:

Use the result as a scenario comparison, not only as a single number. For energy calculators, runtime, price assumptions, efficiency and seasonal effects usually drive the biggest differences.

How to use the result better

  • Calculate one realistic and one efficient scenario.
  • Compare monthly and annual values so small daily amounts are not underestimated.
  • Check inputs against real tariff, consumption or device data.

Common mistake

The most common mistake is an overly optimistic usage profile: runtimes too short, prices too low or missing base costs.

How exact is the result?

It is a solid estimate when inputs are realistic. Bills may differ because of tariff details, weather, usage and supplier factors.

Why calculate several scenarios?

Scenarios show which input has the strongest impact, and that is usually where optimization should start.

Formula

How the result is calculated

Daily electricity consumption in kWh = (power in watts ÷ 1000) × usage hours per day
Weekly electricity consumption = daily consumption × usage days per week
Yearly electricity consumption = weekly consumption × 52
Monthly electricity consumption = yearly consumption ÷ 12
Variable electricity cost = electricity consumption × electricity price
Total monthly cost = variable monthly electricity cost + monthly base fee
Total yearly cost = variable yearly cost + monthly base fee × 12

Example

Worked example

Example: A device with 1,500 watts runs 2 hours per day on 7 days per week. This results in daily consumption of 3 kWh, weekly consumption of 21 kWh and annual consumption of about 1,092 kWh. At an electricity price of €0.32 per kWh, variable electricity cost is about €349.44 per year. With an additional monthly base fee of €12, total annual cost is about €493.44.

Which devices can you calculate?

Use it for computers, TVs, fridges, washing machines or other appliances.
